Jordan AllisonLafayette College, Easton PennsylvaniaJordan Allison is a rising junior at Lafayette College in Easton Pennsylvania where he is double majoring in Economics and Sociology. He is a kindhearted and respectful person with a fantastic sense of humor who can brighten a room with a smile. His interests capture everything about sports from the participation in sports to the sociology of sports to the economics of sports. This initial fascination in sports has led him to pursue a sports related career. He is a well rounded individual who participates in a co-ed acapella group, club basketball and flag football, and a Christian Disciple Makers fellowship. He values service along with enjoyable activities while still being driven to perform. Jordan hopes to effectively learn how to use his skills and abilities to benefit people outside of himself and to globalize his service.

Eddie JonesOlive Harvey College, Chicago ILEddie Jones is a students at Olive Harvey College in the city of Chicago.Eddie is the youngest of three and passionate about helping others and technology. Eddie is an alumni of NASA’s National Community College Aerospace Scholars program. He was invited to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville Alabama where he and a team, created rover prototypes, competed against other teams. Eddie got to pitch the team’s designs to a panel of scientist at NASA. Eddie graduates this May and plans to transfer to Illinois Institute of Technology fall 2018. He’s currently the STEM club president and Student Government senator at Olive Harvey College.

The LFW 2018 Program
The Leaders of the Free World Program is focused on the personal and professional development of young Black men. LFW Fellows take part in a year-long leadership development program that includes a trip to Ghana. Our program maximizes the potential of our students while building their confidence and their effectiveness. We teach our fellows to be resilient, courageous, self-reflective, and action oriented.
Roderick J. NashJohn A. Logan College, Carterville, ILRoderick J. Nash, a second year student at John A. Logan in Carterville, IL where he’s majoring in Criminal Justice. Roderick’s interests include Journalism, Communications, and Marketing. Roderick’s plans to obtain a bachelor’s and Master's degree in criminal justice while pursuing a career in law enforcement or legal studies. Roderick is passionate about creating a path to success and giving back to others.
Roderick is excited at the opportunity to find his purpose with a group of other young men with the same goal. While he admits to “still trying to find his purpose”, he his personal goal is to grow as individual and as a young African-American male. Roderick hopes to achieve his Associate’s degree in less than a year’s time as well as have the opportunity to expand his school’s National Honors Society of Leadership and Success; Sigma Alpha Pi. |
Maurice RodgersOlive Harvey College, Chicago, ILMaurice Rodgers is a student at Olive Harvey College in Chicago, Illinois, working towards becoming a college professor in African-American History and Political Science. He will graduate this May with an Associate's of Arts degree in Urban Studies. Maurice plans to attend the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky in the Fall where he will study Pan-African Studies and Political Science. Maurice is passionate about learning history as he believes it showcases human experiences, stimulates and nurtures critical thinking, and promotes intellectual poise and challenges. He is a member of a national honor society: Phi Theta Kappa(PTK), a One Million Degree scholar, and the Vice President of Olive-Harvey's College Student Government Association (SGA). One of Maurice’s personal dreams is to travel abroad. As a fledgling scholar, Maurice hopes to be a part of the change he expects to see in his community.

Tayquan Pomare-TaylorBunker Hill Community College, Boston, MATayquan Pomare-Taylor is a Visual Arts Major at Bunker Hill Community College who has garnished the attention of the White House through his work at the Children’s Museum. Tayquan has a captivating personality and a brilliant sense of humor. His level of creative expression is evident not only in his work at the museum but also in his multimedia projects, including photography/ videography. His love for art, technology and people is clearing the path for his successful future. When Tayquan graduates he plans to become a business owner for his project, “Sculpture”. Tayquan is also a member of Black Flag Dance Crew. As a krump and enthusiast and all around entertainer, Tayquan has been on the dance scene since he was 5. Tayquan’s biggest drive is working with others and creating. He has worked with organizations such as L.O.T (Leaders of Tomorrow), REEP ACE, Project Hip Hop, Boston Children’s Pop Up Museum, and Teen Empowerment. Tayquan is an alumni of the Paul Robeson Institute / Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts.

Marcus G. VilmeLFW Senior Fellow, Hyde Park, MAMarcus G. Vilmé is a alumnus of Lafayette College in Easton Pennsylvania where he received his B.A. in Anthropology & Sociology with a Chinese minor. During his time at Lafayette College, he invested his time into not only being a full time student-athlete but also an advocate for many organizations such as: President of the Lafayette African & Caribbean Student Association, Co-Coordinator of Kaleidoscope Social Justice Peer Educators, Peer Educator for the International Student Association and so much more. His love for intersectionality and cultural understanding showed through his personality, humor, and topics of conversations with individuals. The foundations, interactions, and knowledge that he built over the years carried over into his pursuits post-grad. Marcus is currently working as a fitness coach for Performance Fitness & Training and is operating his own business called A.M.P. Mentalities, LLC which looks to sync the mind, body, and soul through the mediums of fitness, nutrition, and/or life coaching.

The Process:
- LFW Fellows will meet monthly with their cohort leading up to their international experience (Jan – July 2018).
- LFW Fellows will participate in monthly tele-seminars with special guest speakers and attend an all fellows (in-person) retreat. (March / April)
- LFW Fellows from all cohorts will travel to Ghana for 2-weeks. (July/August 2018). While in Ghana fellows will explore topics in leadership (social, political, service-oriented, and entrepreneurship) and take part in intentional reflection sessions, cultural exchange activities, and community service.
- Upon return, LFW cohorts will continue to meet monthly (cohort meetings and tele-seminars) and set S.M.A.R.T. goals for their year following the program. (August – December)
